Académie de recherche et d’enseignement supérieur (ARES) International Training Scholarships 2027/2028 for Study in Belgium (Fully Funded)

Applications are now open for the 2027/2028 ARES International Training Scholarships. As part of the 2027–2032 five-year programme, ARES is offering a new range of international study programmes, enabling you to undertake a bachelor’s degree, a one-year specialisation master’s degree or a six-month continuing professional development course at an institution within the Wallonia-Brussels Federation in Belgium.

Objectives of International Training

  • Increase the level of qualifications of participants;
  • Empower people in their countries of origin;
  • Strengthen interpersonal and professional networks;
  • Improve the capacity of the home institutions of scholars;
  • Highlight international themes;
  • Promote the expertise and experience of participants of  training courses;
  • Enable scholarship holders to become agents of change in their home institutions and in society, in favour of development.

Requirements

The applicant must:

  • Be a permanent resident and work in one of the 32 eligible countries (see list below). Exception: Palestinian nationals are eligible even if they do not reside in one of these 32 countries.
  • Applicants must hold a higher education degree and meet the admission requirements for the program, which are described on the ARES website. Applicants must have held the relevant academic degree for no more than 20 years prior to the start of the program. This maximum period is extended by one year for each birth and/or adoption.
  • Demonstrate  relevant professional occupation ,  in one of the 32 eligible countries, of at least two years after the last higher education diploma and before the closing date of the call.
  • Complete the application in the language in which the training is provided and be able to demonstrate a good written and spoken command of that language . Furthermore, a basic knowledge of French facilitates integration into daily life in Belgium.
  • Apply to only one course .

In Africa  : South Africa, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Ethiopia, Guinea, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Niger, Uganda, DR Congo, Rwanda, Senegal, Tanzania, Tunisia and Zimbabwe

Duration

  • Bachelor’s and specialized master’s degrees: 12 months maximum.
  • Continuing education: maximum 6 months.

Financial support

The scholarship includes:

  • International travel expenses.
  • Subsistence allowance.
  • Exceptional fees related to visa applications (only for bachelor’s and specialized master’s degrees).
  • Registration fees (only for bachelor’s and specialized master’s degrees).
  • Indirect mission costs (only for continuing education courses).
  • Insurance costs.
