Applications are now open for the 2026 Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Parliamentary Research Programme. A five‑month paid internship offering graduates the opportunity to gain hands‑on research and policy experience inside Parliament in Cape Town.

This programme offers a unique opportunity to deepen your understanding of parliamentary processes, develop strong research skills, and contribute to meaningful policy work.

Program Details

  • Programme duration: 28 April – 25 September 2026
  • Commitment: Full‑time (minimum 40 hours/week)
  • Paid internship

The KAS programme is designed for “active” learners. You won’t just be watching; you will be contributing.

  • Legislative Support: Assist in researching specific bills and policy documents currently under debate in committees.
  • Political Communication: Help draft press releases, speeches, and briefing notes for Members of Parliament (MPs).
  • Strategic Analysis: Monitor political trends and summarize complex legal or economic data into actionable reports for your party team.
  • Networking: Gain unmatched access to the structures, processes, and influential figures within the Cape Town parliamentary precinct.

Eligibility Requirements

KAS seeks high-performing graduates who are committed to the values of democracy and human rights.

  • Academic Qualification: You must hold at least a 3-year degree from a recognized university.
  • Target Fields: Politics, Economics, Law, Media, Communications, or Journalism. (Backgrounds in Law and Economics are highly prioritized).
  • Skills: Exceptional writing ability and the capacity to work under extreme pressure in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Residency: You must have the legal right to work in South Africa.
  • Commitment: Available to work 40 hours per week for the full duration of the program in Cape Town.
